Dr. Irene Diep was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Ever since she was a young girl, she loved nature and science. It was specifically her love of whales which led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As a college student, she volunteered to conduct field research on whales and dolphins in the Santa Monica Bay.
However it was a volunteer position at UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute that steered her path towards optometry. She became fascinated with this small organ that was so intricate and important to daily life. At this time, Dr. Diep decided to dedicate herself to a career in optometry.
Dr. Diep moved to Manhattan to attend the State University of New York, College of Optometry (SUNY). SUNY’s affiliated eye-and-vision care clinic, one of the largest in country, allowed Dr. Diep to hone her clinical skills in all areas of optometry. She has extensive knowledge in ocular disease, contact lenses, pediatrics, geriatrics, and vision therapy. In addition, Dr. Diep trained at the Northport VA Medical Center and Capital Eye Consultants. Dr. Diep graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York, College of Optometry in 2006.
Dr. Diep served patients in the Washington DC metro area for ten years prior to moving back to Los Angeles. She is happy to be back in sunny L.A. but admits that she misses the colder seasons. Dr. Diep is excited to bring her expertise and love of optometry to the Downtown Los Angeles community.
